Willink PTA Newsletter April 2018
The Willink School PTA is committed to raising funds and raising standards in your school. In the last few years we’ve raised thousands of pounds to support both large and small projects that improve the students’ experience and education.

The Willink PTA has raised thousands of pounds in recent years– supporting major projects, including a 3D printer and laser cutter and last year equipping three STEM classrooms with the latest interactive whiteboards and projectors.
But it’s not just about the big stuff. From PE mats to art easels, magazine subscriptions and maths puzzle prizes, the PTA also funds smaller equipment and services to improve school life.
This year so far our Christmas Fair, quiz and other activities have raised over £3,500. But there’s still a long way to go – and we need your help and support.
As most of you will be aware – the Willink is operating at full capacity and space is at a premium. So this year, at the request of the senior leadership team we are raising funds for an outdoor canopy. The canopy would provide essential shelter and shade at lunch and breaktimes when limited space means that sometimes students have nowhere to go on rainy days.
By providing more usable outdoor space, students would benefit from spending more time in the fresh air which contributes to their physical and mental well-being.
Our ambitious target is to raise £14,000 over the next 2 years – which is an awful lot of cupcakes!
As such we are actively seeking opportunities to boost our fundraising activities and would welcome any ideas or opportunities.
We have a number of events planned for 2018 and beyond. Make a note in your diary:
|Sunday 13th May||PTA to provide a 2nd hand book stall at the Burghfield May Fayre.|
|Friday 22nd June||QuizFest and Summer Barbecue. Get your family and friends together for a quiz with a festival theme. With live musical entertainment. Tickets £10 including food.|
|Sunday 15th Sept||Family Fun Day at the Fox and Hounds, Burghfield. Featuring local small businesses, the Cadets' climbing wall, Bake-Off, live music and, of course, horse racing! All monies raised go to The Willink School.|
|Tuesday 25th Sept||AGM and committee meeting 7.30pm Fox and Hounds Theale|
|Saturday 17th Nov||Willink Christmas Fair – stalls, games, presents and the usual festive treats|
We are keen to set up a second hand uniform service and would like a small number of volunteers to manage this. If you are interested in supporting the school and getting involved – please email PTA@willink.w-berks.sch.uk.
If you have used mobile phones that you no longer need – and are willing to donate to a good cause, we’d love to accept them.
Please contact Lisa Donnithorne lDonnithorne@willink.w-berks.sch.uk
Considering the size of the school – with over 1000 students - we are a very small committee and are seeking more members! The PTA committee is made up of busy hard-working teachers and parents who give their time voluntarily. If you can spare a few hours now and again, please do get in touch. Even if you can’t regularly attend committee meetings we are always looking for helpers to support our events.
We have an active closed FaceBook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/512564698858659/ to help communication between the committee, so if you’d like to join that or to get involved in other ways, please email PTA@willink.w-berks.sch.uk
Our next meeting is Tuesday 22nd May 7.45 at the Fox and Hounds, Theale. New members welcome!
